Its a sovereign US government coin protected of counterfeiting by federal law whereas bullion coins and bars are fakes only, less of a crime. Sovereigns have more protection, easier to verify and easier to liquidate.
It’s a cheap counter-measure and does a great job, according to protestors in HK and other sources I’ve seen / read about. Pointing it at a person is asking to get shot. Fuck that.
