Yes, you were the asshole. Don’t make a commitment that you aren’t able to fulfill. And, she confessed – what more do you want? If it were not for your commitment she might have kept the secret for years and it might have caused even more trouble in your marriage.
You’re only 26. You might not find the kind of love that you fantasize about, but that doesn’t mean you’ll die alone. Companionship will prevent you from dying alone.
