Spider expert here- Ignore the spider bite people. Black widow bites dont do this, and neither do recluse bites. There are no other spiders in North America that can cause this type of reaction. Recluse bite is ruled about because the cytotoxic venom of Loxosceles destroys your cells, creating a depression, not a raised reaction. It will also be more purple and black than red and will be moist, not dry and crusty. Red inflamed skin near and surrounding the wound is synonymous with an infection. Spider bites do not get infected through the bite but after the bite and from not properly cleaning the wound.
