It happened to me, there was a Tyrunt showing at a stop. Went to investigate and never found it. It showed up on both mine and my fiancés nearby but neither could see it on the map.
Pretty sure the grubs were engineered by Ted Tubberman. This page has some interesting discussion about them and that plaque they found with Eureka! on it.
