I’ve read both the classical Stoic writings ( not all ), a chunk of Holiday’s work, and the work of some other contemporary popular Stoic writers. I don’t think it is that bad. I don’t know what your situation is, but I have read similar criticisms on Reddit before. I’ve noticed that Redditors like to separate themselves from other people by thinking they are into things that require more intelligence or education than others have. My “theory” is that people like Holiday and others who popularize other subjects are often disdained by Redditors because they feel like someone is stealing their thunder. If ordinary people are learning about XYZ, then those Redditors are less special. No disrespect or offense intended.
