That absolutely happens. At work I get people explaining things to me all of the time like I am an idiot. I know those people well. I know it is about people being rushed and multitasking, as well as trying to be helpful so I let go of my instant reactions. I think many women with weak egos just jump straight to the “mansplain” mantra without considering the situation. People often don’t know what your level of knowledge is. The women who throw “mansplain” around have low self esteem, such that their egos get bruised easily when a well meaning person mistakenly thinks they don’t know something.
