Sadly, the public yawns. Meanwhile, diiversity of ownership, not monopoly, would foster competition among newsrooms again. The reason people liked News in the first place is because we used to jam our microphones into powerful places and hold people accountable to the law and GD common sense. Now, these newsrooms are controlled by a handful of owners, motivated only by an interest in gobbling up every license. They seem willing to make any concession to decision-makers in order to get their “deregulation.” But are you really deregulated if you’re told what you can say over the air? They’ll argue this will make them “more competitive.” When, in fact, this will make them LESS competitive and what’s worse, less WATCHABLE.
