I taught 2nd-3rd in HISD years, years ago (Teach for America). It was a Title I, but the school had OK ratings. I think we had a 89 or something from TEA. Anyway, I had 25 students my first year. You could absolutely tell who had involved parents, who had nothing, and who had parents that tried but society/wages was just crushing them against the rocks.
