Seems like it was maybe a “money” thing around the initial disappearance — some thought all-in Barry was worth about 12M. I’ve heard higher and lower. They potentially didn’t want to abandon the cash cow they needed for young adulthood. Now it seems like he’s utterly broke, so maybe that part of the equation is different. It’s obviously still your dad and stuff comes with that. I would assume one or both of them has thought at least several times since 2020: “Well… I mean… what if?”
