This is a common problem in conservative states overall. There is a general air of depression and disappointment everywhere. I moved to Cleveland from Oakland California late last year, and the difference is stark. As someone with depression already, its nearly oppressive here. Im not being snobbish or anything. Its just a sad reality that people in conservative states like this, are generally less traveled, less educated, and less happy overall. I am an extreme introvert, and meeting cool people in Oakland was easy breezy. Here, even if someone is nice, you can almost feel the underlying sadness. Its hard to get excited about anything because of this. Yes, there are awesome people here. Unfortunately, the further out of the city you go, the worse it gets.
