Nonprofits need to be funded and most funding sources are grants and donation based. Federal grants are basically completely out of the question and state grants take quite a long process and requires passing the muster with the foundations administering the grants. In other words unless there’s foundations set up with this type of support in mind, there’s very likely not many if any at all who’d consider it. Not to mention the massive numbers one would need to fund a General Strike. So then you’d need to make donation based and find beneficiaries. Where the fuck is George Soros when you need him?

I also love both authors and I cringe at the Banks diehard fanboys who put his vanilla biscuits on a pedestal. I’m about to go pick up Algebraist, maybe he’ll surprise me. The Culture is fun I like it, not the best or end all though. I prefer JSAC’s prose and plot lines and Reynold’s concepts far more than Banks, which again I do enjoy. Just not my fav. To each their own and I do take offense at the silly comparison NoNo above, that’s just dumb. And nowhere close to accurate, IMO.
