A lot of interesting takes. I think the main point of this scene is to establish Andrews motivations; why hes obsessed and why he endures the abuse. Its not enough for him to be happy, its not enough to do a good job. He wants to be the greatest, to be remembered long after hes gone. Its something his family doesnt understand, which tracks because they are mostly just ordinary people who are not likewise obsessed with the pursuit of greatness. None of them are going to remembered after they are gone because they are content with not being the greatest. But thats not Andrew. For better or worse, however one might view it, Andrew is driven to be the best no matter the personal cost. Theres more than just that going on in this scene but for me, thats the main purpose and takeaway of the dinner scene.

The product advertisements are so bad it borders on parody. The long panning of the trucks/cars making sure to show their emblems. Opening the fridge and the camera literally focuses in on the perfectly placed michelob ultra for like 3 seconds. Zooming in on a character whos just smoking a cig for no apparent reason. Its just weird and takes me out of the show completely.

I think the take it too far is debatable. After several viewings, my takeaway from the movie is that getting to the top, becoming legendary can destroy yourself, your personal life. But it seems to leave it up to the viewer as to whether or not thats good or bad or too far. For some, sacrificing their relationships and sense of self in order to become revered as one of the greats, might be worth it. Of course, thats a bit controversial given the explicit abuse in the film, and also imo begs the question; is it not possible to become great without the abuse and destroying yourself? The movie doesnt really address this but surely not every great artist required a mentor throwing chairs at their heads or maliciously manipulating them, right? In any case, a great movie and one that really makes you think.

The day a nation is able to use a nuke without retaliation is the day the world really goes into a downward spiral into shit. I also think its just not possible. If Russia used a nuke on non-NATO territory there may not be a nuclear retaliation, but certainly a severe and necessarily disproportionate conventional warfare response with the threat of nuclear escalation if Putin uses more nukes. MAD doesnt work if nukes become fair use, not to mention it would immediately spark very serious and probably actionable considerations of a nuclear preemptive strike. In the current state of things, no one is using nukes, so a preemptive strike doesnt make sense unless we had concrete evidence an adversary was preparing to launch their own. But once a nation shows the world they are willing to use nukes against their enemies, even non-NATO ones, the sense of urgency to plan and ultimately carry out a preemptive strike escalates exponentially. I think the moment Putin uses a nuke, nuclear war becomes near inevitable, which is hopefully why Putin hasnt used one despite many years of saber rattling and clearly struggling in this military operation gone wrong.
