I enjoyed Service Model quite a lot, he just released a prequel short story Human Resources in the same universe. On my read very soon list. https://books.apple.com/us/book/human-resources/id6743129697

I also enjoyed the fuck out of it and it was my first foray into ATs amazing catalog (catalogue, lol). Im a sucker for space operas. I dont understand the lack of respect and love it gets from folks. It seems the Children of .. fanboys who start there dont tend appreciate The Final Architecture as much. To each their own, Ive adored almost everything Ive read of AT, currently really enjoying Bear Head.

Yeah I was thinking about that after writing my comment. I picked up the book Im reading right now, Saturation Point also by AT. Anyway before I started reading I thought about how whether reading or listening (for me) the goals is to picture it in my head so that I can be fully immersed. Because of Shrouds setting, ya know no lighting and only energetic and sound descriptions, its probably more a challenge to picture it when listening. Just a thought. Edit: then I look at your profile after writing this!! Your art is awesome..now I can see even more how the Shroud experience must have thrown your senses..lol Congrats on being a new mother btw!!

Not to be pedantic but your post says just read, it was listened to. You then mention the format.. Ive only listened to two audiobooks and it was hard to really get much detail, log anything into my long term understanding or picture deeply in my head. The last book I listened to I needed to actually read a few months later to take it in. I know a lot of folks prefer reading by audiobooks but that doesnt work for old analog folks like myself. I read the book and thought it was fantastic, highly recommend. Anyway..hope your next read / listen is fulfilling for u op.

Awesome, it’s in the same novella league as the WtA and SP. Likely reading it next.

On my TBR soon list! Just finished Walking to Alderanan, now reading Saturation Point I love AT’s work and the fact that his catalogue is massive, haven’t touched his fantasy yet.

Im not an audiobook fella either. I listened to LiveSuit (novella of Mercy of the Gods, JSAC) and a month later had to read it in order to really take it in. I also tried listening to Network Effect (Murderbot) and just couldnt do it. Waited till the library could get it for me and read it. Analog is king, digital in a pinch.

I just read Walking to Aldebaran, my library has a hardback signed copy, one of 3000. I was surprised, stoked and grateful. Great story too!!

Theyre all good, of the three AC was my least favorite and Shroud the most. Cage of Souls is a good middle ground but I wouldnt want to read them back to back as its almost the same premise. I can see where the comparison of Shroud to AC comes from though, ecologically speaking.
