Looks people had a great time and were part of something really important – plus, imagine how packed the businesses were. NPR was doing a piece and a lot of people said it was their first protest. Doesn’t sound like a waste of a Saturday to me, sounds like it was the place to be.

I liked that snippet from an (I think) NPR show or podcast that they’d play on the commercial for it, where someone said something like, “Our genetics make humans over 99% identical on cellular level – yet that 1% difference has been something people are… eager to explore.” Always thought that was well put, especially the small hesitation – simultaneously being respectful of humanity’s quirks and base tendencies, while still calling out racism.

Probably because that’s overdone and incredibly boring? ‘I got mugged near my apartment last night’ – great, go to the police. ‘There’s a gang of ne’er-do-wells eyeing my dumpster.’ Great, call the police. Etc. etc. Or just stupid, “I don’t live there but you guys should do something about the crime” type posts. Incredibly boring. Now, if you want to talk about “I got robbed, called the police, they showed up 7 hours later…” – NOW you’ve got something interesting to talk about. Edit: lot of people who have never visited Chicago were clearly upset by my comment 🙁 That’s okay – your tears sustain me. ::)

I dont understand how ICE is in the wrong here This should be good… I cant go to a police station and demand to walk around the office area, and thats OK. I dont think politicians get a free pass to tour secure law enforcement facilities. You totally can do that with a police station. In fact, it used to be encouraged so people who need help could find help. It’s also literally those politicians jobs to do exactly what you’re saying. I get the need for unannounced inspections, but I dont think its US reps themselves doing it theyre lawmakers, not inspectors. I imagine it would be employees of a government agency who have specific authority to inspect facilities. They are literally DOING THEIR JOB. It’s fine if you think lawmakers are supposed to sit behind a desk all day – some do, others find out what’s going on for themselves and actually interact with the community. Your profile makes you seem like someone old and smart enough to know better than this.
