Demon problems? He was forced to be closeted and suppress his sexuality in order to have his career. That can lead to some destructive behaviors (see also the Catholic Church)

He injected hatred into his political party. In other words he found a welcoming home for his brand of hatred (misogyny, racism, homophobia) in the Republican Party

He and the likes like Rush Limbaugh are a part of the reason our society is currently at. They walked so the likes of Prager U, Matt Walsh and Ben Shapiro, etc could run.
