r/Dexter:

I really enjoyed the Doakes/Dexter dynamic. If anything, I wish Doakes was around longer than he was.

I always thought it was a little funny that no one really ties the blood slide trophies to Dexter – the fucking blood spatter analyst who gets excited about blood. Like thats such an obvious connection. Maybe, too obvious. Laguerta eventually does make a comment to Tom Matthews about it in S7 when shes finally onto Dexter.

Its funny now but the season is showing that Dexter himself is a bit of a narcissist and hes starting to take a sort of pride in being the Bay Harbor Butcher he has not really shown before. It makes me wonder if its going to get to him enough that he eventually welcomes being outed as the BHB so that he can get his due credit.

That isnt true at all. We dont know how long the Ripper was active for, but even old cold cases can get revived and renewed interest after a time. Claudette being obsessed with the Ripper doesnt help us establish a Ripper timeline in a similar manner that Praters words dont.

Watch the scene again. Dexter is tied up, he kicks Liddy in the face, and then Liddy pulls out a knife and tries to kill Dexter first. Dexter turns the tables and kills Liddy. Liddy escalated to lethal force, therefore Dexter could be argued to have killed in self-defense. Its convenient, of course, because if Liddy had not pulled the knife and tried to kill Dexter, Dexter still would have had to kill him or else he would have been caught. But at the end of the day, Dexter is a serial killer. His #1 rule is dont get caught. If you put a serial killers back against the wall, they will be left with no choice but to try to kill their way out of it. Dexter was absolutely going to kill Laguerta, for instance, which to me is one of the craziest and most egregious things Dexter has considered doing. And even though he didnt pull the trigger, it was his desire to kill her that got her killed, so I still consider her death on his hands.

Claudette 100% wants Dexters help in tracking down the Ripper.

Lol, hadnt thought of that. Lets take it all the way to its logical conclusion. Dexter: The Golden Years. Enjoying life in the retirement home, Dexter finally enjoys some peace from his previous life as a serial killer. That is until he discovers a nurse is hiding a deadly secret

Its definitely what Dexter would do before resorting to killing. Hes going to try to make Batista look like a fool chasing an unhinged conspiracy theory. But Im also sure that in typical Dexter fashion while it will work initially, Batista will persist until he does catch Dexter and hell have to come up with another way to deal with Batista, unless a third party gets rid of him conveniently.

Hes definitely a dickhead in addition to having keen insights.

I think Doakes is great, his interactions are hilarious while also bringing in some tension. Doakes trusts his instincts, and as a detective his instincts are telling him something is off about Dexter. And his instincts are 100% right. Doakes is exactly the kind of person a serial killer in hiding wants to avoid ever being around.
