My Staffordshire / Ridgeback monitors my wood piles, compost and gardens for all rodentia. They show up but they don’t stick around. Dead rodents then go into my black soldier fly farm, who’s larvae become snacks for my hens. Circle of life.

Sycamore is the hardest to split wood I’ve ever dealt with. Granted I’ve only been at it the last four years and have had alder (way easy), oak, walnut, plum, cherry, madrone, doug fir (easy af) and sycamore. I split all by hand except for the sycamore and had borrow a friends 12 ton splitter to process that shit, it was nuts.

I gotta admit the x27 is a helluva tool, really great splitter. It’s my second string / clean up after the Adler Super Splitter for anything too big, difficult or knotted.

I love alder, super abundant and easy to source here in Oregon. It splits like a dream, cures fast, burns pretty hot and smells great.

I get wood from my neighbors and it’s usually doing them a favor by clearing it from their land or actually helping take down dead or dangerous trees.

Yeah I love Doug fir, had a bunch last year. I should have enough wood for the winter, this last haul and the next Im grabbing are the cushion so I dont need to ration it.

Funny you should ask, not bugs but what appears to corn stashed in the tree somehow, lol. The madrone I cut up today was extremely dry, like 10% moisture. I’ll chop the bigger ones tomorrow and check the moisture level.

I have 50 yard home range and suppressors as well. Lets poke some holes in paper sometime. I prefer finding common ground much more than focusing on the differences, especially with the extreme division in our current political climate.
