The answer is no, and yes it’ll devalue your stack. There’s a number of reasons; primarily is the accepted premium on fractionals. Secondly having the makers mark makes them easier to verify authenticity and tertiary consideration is with fractionals they’re more liquid in case you need to sell some. Finally if you’re a prepper who’s saving for shtf having fractionals in bits will make it easier to sell / barter in small denominations.

i am guessing a lot of old people who do not know any better have fallen to this. I’m guessing not a lot of old folks buying metals off ebay. Very likely the people buying are younger crypto and tech bros with easy money and ebay accounts.

All of this and most importantly is that copying / faking a sovereign coin is the definition of counterfeiting (in the US) and if caught is a federal crime, which is a huge deterrent. Faking a bar or company issued coin is much less a crime and is therefore far easier and common to be faked. As a result the number of fake sovereigns are much much less, comparatively not a concern if bought from a reputable source.
