Keep your expectations low. Reboots are rarely what fans want: more of the original. Reboots are basically a bait-n-switch. They rob the grave with a familiar name to draw people in and then to feel like the contributed something artistically instead of just ripping off the original they make gratuitous changes. The cheapest tactic in that regard is a gender flip. The second cheapest is changing the characters. Manage your expectations.

I’m glad I did not know until now that he was in a Bewitched reboot.

I hope Netflix has more respect than Will Ferrell for the fact that the original show is a childhood favorite of many people and that it captured their imagination.

Maybe make it a mini-series ( extendable ). There was a similar show Tera Nova that got canceled because the special effects costed too much. Netflix may worry about costs less with a 1 year (extendable) miniseries. The writers will not have to worry about running out story ideas. The writers can also plan on a finale ( The Marshalls getting home ), and maybe having 1-2 closure episodes after The Marshalls get home. When they get home they discover that they were returned the same day as they left. They still have most of their two week vacation to adjust to civilization again. They can be portrayed getting used to safety again, living in a house, processed food, having family meetings about feel freaky being back. Maybe one of them writes a diary of their trip that gets published as a sci-fi book. That helps them process what happened to them. It also makes them wealthy enough to explore/camp full time, which they are eager to do as they find contemporary suburban life a bit too confining.

The people who make reboots never want what the fans want. The fans want more of the original series. Period. Keep the good stories, the scripts, the good acting. Capture people’s imaginations. Add in better special effects. Use contemporary conceptions of what dinosaurs were like. Get actors who are good actors, but who also resemble the original actors. Avoid the temptation to put an original spin on it. It will not make people forget you are grave robbing a familiar name to draw them in. No intention of being rude.
