Hell yeah. Speaking of which I am due! And I can definitely be caught mixing in earplugs. Certain electronic & guitar-driven shows which I know Ill hold a ten min avg of 98-100 A-weighted for the headliner, Ill soundcheck naked (no plugs, lol) and then pop them in once I get to direct support, after ramping up during the opening sets.

You should get new impressions and fresh plugs every 2-3 years if you can afford them. Your ears change shape as you age. I go every 3-5 years at this rate.
