Because he ran an amazing campaign.for NYC (not to mention the alternatives were awful). IMO NYC does not equal the entirety of the country. I hope he is successful as mayor and fully support his candidacy so it can be used as an example of progressive policies working.

Nah here in the US the left wing were more than happy to sit at home and allow the fascists to take over. I genuinely think they believe and want Trump to burn the system down and then somehow the public will then want a progressive populist to swoop in and create the liberal utopia of their dreams.
