My guy, Mitch McTurtle was able to do that because we didnt have a fascist president doing fascist things and actually tried to accomplish things through congress like the government is supposed to run and of course he abused the fuck out of good faith normal processes. All of this shit Trump is doing is happening through executive orders or just him literally commanding it to happen and the party controlling congress (GOP) sees no reason to intervene. Theres no filibustering thats going to stop the Elon coup. Theres nothing the dems can do right now, except protest.

Are people unaware that dems have literally no power? I keep seeing this call for dems to do something; they cant. If they had control of the House or Senate, theyd have more tools at their disposal. Unfortunately, thats not the case.

Thats also part of the plan; make politics so exhausting, and both-sides everything so people just feel overwhelmed and like none of it matters, and tunes out.

Those people lead normal lives like you and me up until Nazis came to their home, evicted them, and stole all their valuables and assets. Then they forced them to live in segregated ghettos, where they believed they had hit rock bottom and things couldnt possibly get any worse. Then they were forced into camps and made to do slave labor, then systematically mass murdered. It began with a promise to mass deport the Jews who were scapegoated for Germanys problems. This not a joke or a game. The country is now in control of fascist, Nazi dictatorship and people are putting their heads in the sand. Allowing leaders to openly display Nazi salutes is how we repeat the worst parts of history.

Ive talked to a few people who didnt like the movie because they just thought it was over the top and excessively ridiculous. I found it to be extremely unsettling in capturing the vibe of current American leadership, politics and general mentality.

Its pure selfishness. Americans have completely lost any semblance of community. That requires them to be personally impacted before they give a shit. Whats worse is that most are under the impression that they are more likely to themselves become billionaires than ever need assistance like Medicaid or social security. Americans are watching the billionaire class rob them of entitlements and safety nets and allow themselves to be tricked into thinking this is going to work out for them in the end, somehow. Astonishing.

Oh for sure. This a point I bring up to my wife in these troubling times, which doesnt bring much comfort but the truth is western democracy is a relatively new and anomalous way of life for humans. Present day and throughout history, humans have scarcely lived under a government that they had much say in, or freedom. We are lucky to live in a time and place where we arent war-torn or enslaved. Its important that we fight to preserve this, or we will be.

He quite obviously holds more power and influence than any elected official aside from Trump himself. He addresses the nation from behind the resolute desk and literally speaks over Trump. Hes making sweeping decisions that are completely reshaping our government bureaucracy. I dont think its unfair to refer to him as a leader.

Same. If it gets really, really bad, I may stop caring altogether.

We are beyond that. We were warned that institutions would not be able to save us from dictatorship, and that truth has come to pass. He wont be impeached and removed under any circumstances, so what next?
