Because they know Trump will leverage the power of the US government against them if they dont bend the knee? Its just an accepted reality now that Trump will corruptly use any means necessary to hurt his political enemies and now that hes the most powerful man in the world with the backing of congress and the Supreme Court, he can easily make life hell for any CEO or corp that he wants.

The rest of western democracies are going to pull away from the US as hard as they reasonably can and who can blame them? Weve proven we cant be trusted and will elect anti-NATO Russian puppets who want to bully our allies with trade wars or literal threats against their very sovereignty. Even if we somehow course correct somewhat in 2028, the damage is done. America is going to be an isolated shitshow of a dystopian right wing oligarchy. Going to be a painful time I think not just these next 4 years, but for generations.

He could post a swastika on shitter and people would still deny it and argue that the swastika has other historical meanings and obviously he doesnt mean it in a Nazi way. We live in a post-truth society. Facts and logic dont matter anymore. They will not admit they are Nazis until their boots are on their necks and they are put into camps. Some deny it because they are bad-faith actors actively hiding their true Nazi intentions, and others because they are trying to protect their own mental wellness by denying the reality that the fascists have taken over.

I know, its amazing when people keep saying Trump cant or wont be able to do this or that. Congress is under Trumps control. There will be no check or balances here. The same is true of the Supreme Court. Trump has carte blanch to do – whatever the fuck he wants. And hes extending that same power to rich, un-lected, un-vetted individuals like Elon Musk. Also, anyone who commits any crimes for Trump, will get a pardon for doing so, and theres similarly no check on that power. Scary times. Though I will say the pardon power has been an issue forever, weve just been lucky that no previous president has really decided to abuse it to the insane degree Trump has and will continue to do, but the option was always there to be horrendously abused to give a free pass to your goons to commit crimes for you. Trump obviously sees no issue with doing that.
