Honestly the game just has fantastic writing, dialogue, and emotion. But you just cant expect that same level from a tv show. A game allows you to take as much time as you want; you spend a lot more time exploring and searching every nook and cranny of every area, and to make what would normally be a tedious undertaking interesting, theres so many small moments peppered in everywhere of Joel and Ellies relationship growing, or even just the characters talking to themselves. They all give you insight into their personalities, their emotions, and their relationships with others, taking place over tens of hours, and its done so well. A tv show just doesnt have the time to do that for you. In some ways, the show feels slightly rushed to me, and I do think they could have taken a little more time with some of the story beats. But even so, it would never match up to the game experience. I still enjoy the show for what it is and appreciate its existence.

Show Ellie is pretty close to game Ellie part 1. Certainly much closer to part 1 Ellie than part 2 Ellie. I like the show but when I watch it Im convinced we are seeing what would happen if 14 year old Ellie tried to do what part 2 Ellie did.

I think she would be fine if the writing was better tbh. The writing and dialogue just has her coming across as incompetent, and childish/immature. Its really like watching part 1 Ellie trying to do what part 2 Ellie does, and it doesnt work. Part 2 Ellie obviously grew up a bit, and is a pretty apt survivor and killer. S2 Ellie just isnt that. Theres a lack of competence, maturity, and frankly rage and thats all attributable to the writing changes. Its possible that she would fail to portray part 2 Ellie if the writing werent so flawed, but its impossible to know that, and I dont see issues with her acting ability. Dina and Jesse are both written well and come off – again – as more mature, more competent, and more serious than Ellie, which is why they look better in contrast to her character.
