They could outright ban exports instead and watch things get really spicy.

Yesterday proved theres nothing rational or fundamental about how any of this shit works. Stock market is vibes and hope. The reality of this situation is not priced in, and investors are in denial. We are so fucked.

What if companies factor tariffs into their profit margins though? Thats about a 58% margin so they could raise price to $2400

People were warned about all of this. That Trump would be the most lawless, corrupt president and youd lose your democracy. The self-enrichment is a given, but the destabilizing impacts of tariffs were warned about too. No one should be surprised or blind-sided by any of this.

The markets arent rational. They also dont operate in a vacuum. There are real world impacts that have not yet manifested that are downstream from the implementation of this tariff nonsense that will matter. Slowdown of consumption, loss of productivity, higher prices across the board, disruption of supply chains, mass layoffs. This is the direction we are firmly headed in, in addition to a changing world order where our allies move to decrease their dependence on US for trade etc. The market will go up and down, not necessarily in accordance with logic or common sense, but the long term trend isnt going to be good.

Oh, so you do understand there are negative consequences to these actions. Your flippant comment afterward suggested you see this as no big deal, clearly an issue with my reading comprehension skills.

here is an informative 8 min video explaining how tariffs work and why they are difficult to remove once implemented. Again, for the normal brains that may want to know. Add to your reminder to update on however many tens of billions of taxpayer dollars its going to take to bail out farmers and other affected industries as a result of the trade war. Looks like well probably be doing that again.

Aw cute, you know how to use copy and paste but are incapable of digesting and understanding the information. 8 years ago, Trump set tariffs on select Chinese goods, such as solar panels, washing machines, and other selected goods from machinery, aerospace, and medical industry. These typically ranged from 10% to 30% ranges, and excluded household goods specifically to mitigate the impact on US consumers. Today we are looking at minimum 54% on ALL Chinese imports with little exception. Now for normal people with normal brains who might read this exchange, I dont have to explain how this is unlike what happened 8 years ago, because its pretty obvious. But for you, I can certainly provide some crayons if you like.

I mean, wouldnt anyone else do this too? If you were told, repeatedly, under no uncertain terms, by the highest court in the land, the legal institutions, and the majority of voters that you are above the law and can commit any and all crimes you want, wouldnt you do crimes and get filthy rich? Imagine being told you can rob the country blind and never face consequences. Of course they are going to do this. And theyll be doing it until Trump dies. Maybe even afterwards.
