How are investigative reporters going to prove something was planted? Criminals claim planted evidence all the time and often they are lying, but also often they are telling the truth. I dont think a case being high profile really makes it any more or less likely that the police will be untrustworthy and plant evidence. But I DO think that when someone in the most protected, privileged, and powerful class is murdered, especially by a presumed lower class individual, that exponentially raises the probability of corruption and false evidence in order to quell the perception that the ruling class is vulnerable.
