I finished my school years in rural Texas. When I took my high school state history course in 1986, the textbook was from 1974. I remember the way the book addressed the Ku Klux Klan. It was a fraternal social club formed to protect the widows and orphans of Confederate soldiers. It even said that the klan would bring baskets of food to old women like some twisted Little White Riding Hood.
