I had a similar experience. Raised and educated in a fundamentalist, conservative environment. For me it was contradictions (for example my school believed drums in music was satanic, and the church I went to used drums in their praise and worship). And college was where I really had exposure to other POVs and became liberal in my views. (Which is why conservatives here hate higher education)
