I had a very similar experience this week. Someone connected with me on Facebook Messenger. She described herself as some kind of counselor and preacher. She said she didn’t push religion on people, and that she was just there to help people find God and Jesus. I informed her that I am an atheist and she should not spend her energy on me. So, in the spirit of good communication, I told her that as a counselor, she might want to be aware of things she does that insult people. I told her that when she knows a person is an atheist she should think twice about speaking to them as if God and Jesus were real – because it’s insulting to us. I told her that if she wants to insult people it should be by choice and not by accident. Counselors should be aware of those things. Anyway, she became angry and terminated the conversation. It’s that old Christianest thing: “rules for thee and not for me.”
