I mean, they didn’t like the last pope any more than the current one. I grew up Catholic, and I def see disagreeing with the past two Popes if you want, but a lot of people I know just don’t consider him legitimate cause “woke” or whatever, even though the ENTIRE REST OF THE CATHOLIC WORLD disagrees with them. American Catholics are a special breed, I tells ya. They’re like a perpetual “No, it’s everyone else who is wrong” Skinner meme – admitting anything else means their version of god is wrong, and that CANNOT stand. It’s a deep, personal offense to them to admit otherwise, that someone out there might be right instead of them. Really not kidding.
