Its pure selfishness. Americans have completely lost any semblance of community. That requires them to be personally impacted before they give a shit. Whats worse is that most are under the impression that they are more likely to themselves become billionaires than ever need assistance like Medicaid or social security. Americans are watching the billionaire class rob them of entitlements and safety nets and allow themselves to be tricked into thinking this is going to work out for them in the end, somehow.
