Make sure of a couple things before you start hitting rocks: clear out anything in the 8 spots surrounding the rock and make 2 holes behind where you’re going to be hitting it to stop your character from getting knocked back. Make sure the holes you dig are right next to each other and they’re positioned so that you can’t “slide” past them.
