Same with me comrade, Red Dawn was one of my early inspirations, lol. My get home kit is changed out every fall and spiring to adjust for weather related concerns, mostly the clothing; adding extra layers for winter, pouring out 1/4 of water in containers in case of freezing, I haven’t worried about the med kit as far as weather-related concerns. My GH kit is kept in a water-proof bin and has two-fold strategy; either stay with vehicle and items to support that (tarp, flares, rope, food & water, mylar blanket, wool blanket, headlamp, fire extinguisher, etc) or get away from vehicle; small backpack to fill with whatever from kit makes sense. The small backpack is what I keep the extra layers in as well as other small items like gas mask, gloves, toothbrush, extra glasses, flashlight, etc
