Some of the things you say sound familiar to me. I’ve dealt with much of this myself. Our hominin brains are already designed to interpret facial expressions, cues, and nonverbal signals. We can drive ourselves nuts trying to consciously observe and interpret that stuff ourselves. By the time we can consciously interpret expressions and signals it’s time for us to catch the next bus. Our biological brains can do that better and faster. I recommend you start spending a lot of time surrounded by people, and just watch and listen. NOT to intellectualize what you see in here, but to let your brain become comfortable in that environment. It’s a capability you can develop, just like you can develop biceps at the gym.
