Sorry for the wall of text. I got my dander up. TLDR: Damn right we have to put in the work to win the political majorities needed to make progress legislation at all levels. And harder to be worthy of it. You are 100% correct. We have to put in the work to elect Democratic candidates at every level. From water board to president. And when we win and control the levers of power we must work even harder to be worthy of that power. Once we help them win, we must work just as hard to hold them accountable. Legislation to re-write the tax code so that it is a progressive update to the WWII tax code. Tax billionaires out of existence. Create a set of legislation that is a progressive update to the new deal. Our most beautiful public buildings were built during the great depression. We must be courageous. We must update the legislation in the post-war boom in housing costs that made homeownership affordable. We must legislate to support labor and to control big businesses. The billionaire class and their transnational corporations will betray anyone if it will increase their next quarter profit. Their existence is corrosive to democracy as a governing principle. They will always lean toward fascism. It is more beneficial for them. They must be tightly regulated with just punishment for their illegal behavior. It must be too costly to commit the crime. Both to the corporation as a business entity and to the officers of the corporation. Shareholders must lose money, and the management from the lowest line supervisor to the C-Suote must spend time in prison and lose money. The crimes of big businesses destabilize countries. We must pass legislation to make higher education affordable at all levels from any trade school to the most exclusive university. If you are accepted as a student, you should be able to attend without concern for the expense. An investment in the higher education of our people citizen, legal resident, undocumented person, every honor student and every high school drop out, convicted criminals, everyone should be able to further their education as far as they want to. Their education will return multiple times in value what it cost to educate them. We must pour money into our public education. We must be the envy of the world. We must provide a level of education that allows a high school graduate to support themselves in a working class lifestyle enjoyed by the post-war unionized blue color worker. The ability to purchase a modest home, earn a living from a single full-time job. There should be no need for side-hustles to make ends meet. Strong legal protections for working class people. Strong unions. Set the conditions so that everyone has the ability to afford an annual vacation along with legislation requiring paid vacation and paid sick leave. If we can’t deliver for the vast majority of Americans from the homeless to the upper middle class, then what good are we? Why should anyone vote for us?
