Where I live lidl fruit isn’t really that cheap. But sometimes they have special offers. Is there an Asian grocery store nearby? Often they make produce into loss leaders. Second sentence isn’t really empathetic advice for someone with budget issues. Most of my adult life I have been disappointed about how small I could make my food budget, but could not because of the cost of produce. I have been to nutritionists that have told me that people not eating produce ( or enough ) get long term deficiencies which lead to diseases where poor micronutrient nutrition often isn’t recognized as the cause. I get the frustration of produce prices being high. I make it hurt less by telling myself it costs much less than a medical problem. That is the spirit I offered my advice in. You could try keeping a food diary at cronometer.com for a few weeks to see how much you need for various nutrients and what cheaper sources might be ( “Top 10 Sources Of ____” ). For example, I learned that broccoli has respectable amounts of vitamin C, so I don’t need fruit every single day. I also learned that brown rice and sunflower seeds ( cheap! ) have loads of selenium so I don’t need to buy Brazil nuts.

Fresh fruit, nuts, and (some) vegetables are probably the most expensive part of my diet. How can I change that?
