Would you rather be forced to react to the cyclist approaching you from the rear or the one you can see coming? Personally, as a cyclist, I would much rather you see me coming and make an informed decision about which way to go. I have never collided with a pedestrian before but I can tell you that when its been close, its because I announced on your left and they in turn stepped to their left. No bueno, friend.
