You’re of course entitled to your opinion, but I think you’ve got it backwards. The way to prevent the far-right from staying in power is by building a party that actually energizes people with policies that materially improve their lives. Mamdani just handed Democrats a winning playbook on a silver platter. He defeated a corrupt establishment candidate by running on tangible, people-centered issues (exactly what the party claims it needs to do to “connect with voters”). Yet instead of embracing this proven strategy, party leaders are running away from him as fast as possible. This is the same dynamic that gave us Biden in 2020. The establishment coordinated to stop Sanders’ clear momentum and gave us a candidate who promised donors that “nothing will fundamentally change.” That’s not a sustainable strategy; it’s just kicking the can down the road while the conditions that create far-right movements continue to fester. The far-right stays in power when the alternative offers nothing but managed decline with better messaging. The only real threat to fascism is a movement that shows people their lives can actually get better. So far, Democrats are choosing to sabotage that possibility rather than embrace it.

I’m not arguing that language and messaging don’t matter. They do. But the primary concern right now is the actions taken by Israel (with US support) that are leading to widespread death. In terms of hierarchy of concerns, genociding is more of an immediate concern than calling for genocide.

“The Ds dont control any branch of government.” Which is exactly why you think they’d be devising and implementing a winning strategy to retake power. So far, all we’ve seen is them distancing themselves (at best) or sabotaging (at worst) the candidate who’s shown them an effective way to win and create positive energy for change.

Keep defending the starvation of an entire population, the systematic killing of those lined up seeking whatever paltry amounts of aid they can get in the midst of this starvation campaign, and the destruction of all hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure. I’m done arguing with someone who’s not concerned about a US-funded genocide that’s killed over 60,000 people. Lastly, the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide states that genocide refers to acts committed with the “intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such.”

I thought it was quite clear, but if further explanation is needed: You said: “if they wanted the population dead they would be.” 60,000+ are already dead. My question is, how many do you need there to be to consider this a genocide?

Calling for genocide is definitely secondary to doing a genocide.

No, words are not genocide. Genocide is genocide.

“I mean, it’s pretty evil to kidnap someone from their home and then starve them and make them dig their own grave. They’re certainly trying.” Now multiply that times thousands and you have what Israel is doing to Palestinians.

What number of dead and starving would satisfy you? 60,000+ and counting (and that’s a very conservative estimate)
