The media isn’t covering most of the protests. On some social media platforms you see it. I’ve seen videos of Washington D.C. residents forming being crowds, walking forward, blocking ICE, and forcing them to retreat.

The financial part is easy. Read a introductory book on personal finance, and begin doing those things. Death will always hurt, you have to accept that. You can’t prepare ahead of time and not feel the pain at all. You may be able to take an edge off of it, but you will still feel pain. What you are experiencing is called “anticipatory grief”. A web search will find you books and articles about it. Wishing you the best.
