Great points, OP. Consider this, Nexstar had 6 billion available on its credit card and it chose to buy the CW network. Hell, they could have bought Vizio for a third of that. These aren’t clever people. . . Just greedy.

Broadcast news has a more existential problem: people have decoupled from the station’s log. People watch on their own schedules. The product, as it is currently, is only in demand by people over 55 that still have linear subscriptions. Check out late news viewership in any market. It was been killed by streaming behavior. Check out the latest TVs: do you see any numbers on the remotes?

FCC will allow big groups to own every station in a market. Groups will horsetrade stations to maximize market clusters. Or erase the UHF discount amd allow them 100% coverage in the US.

This is why LOCAL ownership of licenses might be important. Back in the old days, a local owner still had to show their face in the communities they served.
