I’ve been on dating apps for years now, and I haven’t seen any evidence of hookup culture. The women I encounter on dating sites have never heard of sex, and if you bring the subject up you’re done. Nevertheless, there’s one advantage to dating apps: everybody there is open to being approached. If you talk to a woman in the wild, you’re likely to have her start screaming and calling for help. That rarely happens on dating apps.

I have always been a subnormal male: intellectual, non-violent, not muscle-bound, compassionate, and affectionate. Back in the 1970s there were some women who were attracted to me – but very few. I’d get lucky every several years. Some men don’t have to work for it, but the rest of us need to be creative and intentional. We need to work for it. Consider nature. Some seeds fall on fertile ground – those are the other guys. Some seeds land in the cracks between the paving stones, but they terminate anyway and make plants and flour. Those represent us.

We can say no because most of us live in a free society. However, historically it has been necessary for people to marry for economic reasons. The idea of marrying for love is relatively new.

I’m one of those guys that women don’t even notice. Nonetheless I’ve heard a theory that there are things we men can do to influence women, stimulating them to notice us and have an interest in us. I haven’t been able to implement this theory yet, but I’m still studying it.

People on dating apps can tell whether you are a paid member or a free member. It might be good to have a paid membership to at least one dating app. I like Zoosk. You have an unlimited number of contacts, and you can message anybody.
