Frozen spinach ( or kale ) is awesome for adding to big pots of rice or pasta when they are close to being cooked.

What about a Lidl? If not that Asian and ethnic markets often use produce as loss leaders. They also sell the kind of dried staples mentioned in the thread, but cheaper. “Dollar” stores often sell dried beans, pasta, etc cheaply.

This video is from a vegan several years ago about solving a similar problem. Making 1 month of food stamps last for 2 months, about $100. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUZuu3JPzXM

Sadly, I have seen headlines about fast food places realizing that they have priced themselves out of the market, but instead of lowering their prices they are offering coupons/deals through their apps. They apps probably allow them to make money off of data mining on you. The deals probably only reduce price gouging to slightly higher than reasonable prices. My guess is that the various fast food corporations want to see if sales/coupons/deals are enough to get business back to higher levels before they resort to lowering their prices back down. I guess the silver lining is that they will encourage people to learn to cook again and maybe some business will be permanently lost when people see that cooking for themselves isn’t that bad.

Why on Earth do you think a tax on a certain type of goods is telling people what to do? A lifetime of watching the news. That is exactly the idea politicians talk about and use to discourage particular behaviors – at least what they claim. No, it doesn’t stop those things but it does reduce it for people who don’t have a lot of money.

Do you really need our girl Merle to review 364 branded frozen peas? 🙂

No. I am a bit of a health nut, but I don’t like the idea of telling other adults what to do. I would much rather end government ( US ) subsidies to animal product producers and maybe even corn & wheat producers as most of what is produced is for livestock. I think doing that will let the price of meat and junk food go up. Maybe subsidize produce producers to help lower the prices for that.
