Google did this because of pressure from right wingers complaining to them about those reminders being there. There are a lot European Americans who are bigots, who need to feel like they are above somebody else. Seeing reminders for the observances of other groups of people mixed into a calendar with their observance days gives those other groups of people basic respect and dignity. That undermines the bigots need to feel better than someone else.

For centuries this people have been mistakenly called “Indians” due to Christopher Columbus being lousy with directions. 🙂
