You may be tempted to buy large quantities of some fruit or vegetable because they’re so cheap. Beware that you can only eat just so much. Additionally, those vendors are experts at knowing when some fruit or vegetable is going to spoil the very next day. Don’t miss Philomena’s healthy food in the Winter Shed, which is the long narrow building with garage doors all along the front. It’s the one that says “Rochester Public Market” in big letters above.

More ridiculous billing problems. Last week I tried to pay my bill online with an electronic check (as I always do), but their website refused to accept it saying my Account Status prevented it. So I took the only alternative: paying by card. RG&E took both payments. Researching this, I found that my account had been changed to “AutoPay” without my knowledge and consent. That explains why my first attempt to pay was rejected. But it doesn’t explain the following: (1) why I had received a disconnect notice for failure to pay. (2) why my second attempt at payment was accepted. (3) why my RG&E account was set to AutoPay. (4) why my bills from RG&E do not indicate AutoPay. I called RG&E and described my experience. They promised to send a check to refund the second payment. No check yet. And last Friday I received another disconnect notice. My bill has been paid and the online system shows my balance is zero. I’m set to be disconnected on May 5th.

All of our local stations are owned by conglomerates. There aren’t any local people on our local media anymore.

I don’t want to say anything bad about my city, but to be truthful the winter is cold and gray, like a bad dream. Every year, just as my will to live is about to expire, Spring comes. When Spring comes all our memories of the winter are magically erased.

Some years we have a string of bad weather, and this year is one of those years. We wait longer than anybody else for spring to come, but when it comes all memories of winter are magically erased. We spend all the warm months going to festivals. Who knew there was more than one kind of Polish sausage? And there’s one street remaining from before Urban Removal – at that festival there’s jazz at one end of the street and blues at the other.
