Israel can do what it wants, it’s a sovereign country. This is not about defending or supporting Hamas, no matter how hard you try to make the connection between protesting the US government’s role in this conflict and supporting Hamas. What about wanting to stop the US government from using my tax dollars to finance and supply Israel’s war is Hamas propaganda? We are doing exactly that. You can admit that even if you support the Israeli-American actions.

Yes, if folks are defending Hamas, they absolutely need to make their case for why. That’s not what this discussion is about. This is about continuing or ending US government financing and supplying Israel’s actions in Gaza, which has led to the killing of over 50,000 people. No matter how often folks try to make a false connection, protesting the US government’s active role in this slaughter does not mean defending or supporting Hamas.

Breaking: UT Systems confirms to the Austin American-Statesman that more than 170 students at institution schools have had their visas revoked as of today (4/14): https://www.statesman.com/story/news/politics/2025/04/14/university-texas-system-176-international-students-had-visa-revoked-trump/83085116007/

I understand your point, but what’s the alternative? If universities aren’t going to take an active role in supporting and protecting their students, what should they do? Stay silent as their students are deported simply for speech/expression?

Well said. One of my biggest fears from a leftist/movement perspective is that the Trump administrations overt cruelty, childishness, and chaos will lead to a return to the cult of normalcy that led to Biden winning in 2020. Biden, who as I mention in my post promised that nothing will fundamentally change, was the avatar for normalcy. We can draw hope, though, from the reality that Biden only won the primary after a coordinated effort between the media and political establishment to thwart Sanders clear momentum.

You literally said I was fear mongering because not every international student will have their visa revoked. Your comment is plain to see ^

Anything of substance to offer beyond insults?

Numbers are increasing at universities across the US every day. Now is the time for leadership to develop a plan to protect, support, and advocate for its students. As I mentioned above, the Trump administration admits that they are developing plans to target citizens next.

Mamdani just delivered a playbook on a silver platter. Since the 2024 election, Dems have said they need to figure out how to connect with voters and demonstrate the party’s ability and willingess to improve people’s lives. Mamdani successfully defeated a corrupt, uninspiring establishment candidate by running on people-centered, tangible issues and communicating his ideas effectively. Unfortunately, party leaders seem intent on running as far away from him as possible.
