If we want to be philosophical, most are things destroyed through fire, Pompeii for example. It was never renewed. It was forgotten. It only relates to plants. I give credit where it’s due. It’s rooted in alchemical tradition, although I do like the Greek version as well. Through fire all things are renewed. Just because a person is proud of their heritage it doesn’t mean they should be ethnocentric. In fact, as it should be clear by where the conversation started, I seek out other ethnicities to cherish and appreciate. My last partner was Palestinian American, before that Egyptian. I study martial arts and learn the traditions in the culture where they were developed.

Yes I get to benefit from white privilege on paper, while on the street or around town not so much. I never mark white on anything unless there’s no other option, more often than not I mark “other”, including the census.

I’m dark complected and have been racially profiled more often than I’m comfortable with, they’ve just been wrong. My olive brown skin is different than 99% of white folks, I get questionable looks quite often and occasionally hassled. I look more Middle Eastern than white.

Dogs help. Secure systems and safety protocols. Self-defense training to instill confidence. Im not sure what else to suggest if firearms arent an option. Building your personal defensive capabilities will facilitate developing confidence in yourself and your home.
